1. National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

​

The NDIS provides funding for individuals under 65 with permanent and significant disabilities. Speech pathology services can be included under:

• Capacity Building Supports: To enhance skills and independence.

• Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI): For children aged 0–7 to address developmental delays.

2. Medicare Rebates + (NEW MEDICARE UPDATE FOR FAMILIES)

From March 1st 2026, Medicare has expanded to include Speech and Fluency Diagnoses to the M10 pathway.

What is changing?

M10 eligibility has expanded to include:

​

- Stuttering

- Speech Sound Disorders

- Cleft lip and/or palate

​

Who will this support?

​

To access the rebate, users must:

- Be under 25 years of age

- Have a referral from a GP, Consultant, Physician or Specialist

- Be suspected of or diagnosed with a condition on the M10 list

​

What's Included?

​

Service users can claim a rebate for:

​

- Up to 8 assessment sessions

- Up to 20 treatment sessions

- These assessment and treatment sessions will be completed with a qualified health professional

​

Medicare offers rebates for speech pathology services under specific programs:

​

• General Practitioner Management Plan (GPMP): Allows up to 5 sessions per calendar year for individuals with a chronic medical condition.

• Better Start for Children with Disability: Provides up to $12,000 in funding for early intervention services, including speech pathology, for eligible children under 6.

• Helping Children with Autism (HCWA): Offers up to $12,000 in funding for early intervention services for children under 13 with an autism diagnosis.

3. Private Health Insurance

​
